Narayanganj City Park and Baburail Canal Restoration is featured in the UIA Guidebook for the 2030 Agenda, 2026 Edition as a project addressing peace, justice and inclusive public space.

Once an important waterway in Narayanganj, the Baburail Canal had become polluted and encroached upon. Its restoration brought the canal back into public life through a participatory process involving residents, policymakers and other stakeholders. Community dialogue supported voluntary relocation without forced eviction.

The 405-metre canal edge now includes ghats, floating decks, shaded walkways and spaces for people of different ages and abilities. Native planting, wetland habitats and permeable paths connect the public realm with the canal’s ecological recovery. The guidebook presents the project as an example of how environmental restoration and community participation can strengthen civic trust.
