Sustainable development is our primary consideration for any urban design project. For an inclusive, people-centric and large-scale project like a central Bus Terminal for Keraniganj, sustainability must be considered in terms of the environment, equity and economy. The main objective of this building is to create a sustainable structure. The structures, facilities and infrastructure have all been designed to minimize the impact on the environment. However, based on the functions, a comprehensive program has been developed to guide the design. One of the major challenges facing a bus terminal is its circulation. A circulation plan has been developed for intercity and inter-district buses and passengers. Proper signage has been used so that users can easily move about the terminal. A Central Bus Terminal is a complex project in terms of zoning and functional distribution. As shown in the diagrams, the project site was roughly divided into 3 zones- Intercity Terminal Zone, Main Terminal or Inter-district Terminal Zone, and Utility & Service Zone. The entry and exit locations were defined to serve these zones. An approximate idea of the building footprints, their location and the amount of open space and water body was determined.
