Description
The village is a basic population unit in Bangladesh. In the 1980s, there were 68 thousand villages in Bangladesh and now it is estimated at around 87 thousand. The village is not only the powerhouse of economic and cultural development in the country but also a prime source of food, nutrition, available workable manpower and a reservoir of ecology and natural resources. Therefore, improving villages is essential, and strategic efforts are necessary to bring about the desired changes. These efforts aim to support Bangladesh's graduation to middle-income status by 2021, achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, and transform Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041, as envisioned by Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. According to this vision, all modern civic amenities will be extended to the villages and simultaneously ecology and environment will be preserved. To enrich the natural, infrastructural and human resources of the rural areas, she stressed to follow an efficient and coordinated approach to transform villages as a center of prosperity and poverty- free, climate resilient, the sustainable and dynamic economic hub of Bangladesh.
