Our attempt for Shanta Mirzam is to create a contextual residential building at Asad Avenue in Dhaka. The surrounding area is known for its mix of commercial and residential buildings and lively street life. Shanta Mirzam's approach is sleek and minimalistic, with clean lines. Emphasize given on the design for efficiency and functionality. Besides this, one of the prime considerations is to play with light and proper ventilation. Certain widespread building massing design strategies for passive energy saving, such as subtracting the form, atriums, courtyards, and stilts. With these strategies, it is possible to achieve a moderate improvement in passive energy saving. For this, in this project, the rectangle plan is subtracted from the southeast corner to create more surface and a full-length glass façade allowing plenty of natural light for the interior space as well as improved ventilation. In addition, the glass panels are framed with dark metal accents that give the residence a contemporary and sophisticated look. At the same time, the tall and slender rectangle shape makes it stand out among the surrounding buildings. The transparent perforated metal canopy and boundary wall at the entrance add a distinctive visual touch. However, in terms of landscape, it’s important to note that Shanta Mirzam is located in a bustling urban area yet is blessed with greenery from the surrounding neighborhood. The space that has been subtracted from the southeast corner and brought inside has been designed into a picturesque landscape. Further, to generate a sense of splendor, consideration has been taken to ensure that the building's entrance holds a sense of grandeur. This transitional area has been designed with a hardscape, softscape, as well as solid-void features to provide a rejuvenating atmosphere for weary residents returning home. Vitti seeks to maintain a bright and airy, comfortable atmosphere that can have a positive impact on the well-being of those who reside there.
