The design gently draws students to connect with their surroundings, creating a space where they can feel a part of the environment. Thoughtful use of passive design principles enhances natural light and ventilation, keeping energy needs low. Two single-story buildings embrace the site’s edges, while a 25-meter, double-stacked block shapes the “Uthan,” a central courtyard for vibrant gathering. Locally sourced materials like mahogany, clay tiles, bamboo, terracotta, the library an earthen sanctuary tribute to old aged construction and support the local economy. Rainwater is carefully and strategically stored through rain chains, soak pits, and permeable surfaces. Further, a gentle ramp around the courtyard offering accessibility and blending purpose with nature.
The design beholds an environmentally respectful, inclusive space that promotes equity, resilient spaces, and economic growth for all. Baral Biddya Niketan up hold a time-tested traditional construction process and wisdom.
