Description
The Defense Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) is a military school in Bangladesh that offers advanced training and education for officers from the Bangladesh Armed Forces and other countries. The school's climate-sensitive design approach promotes energy efficiency by reducing the need for air conditioning, with features such as a floating roof above the central atrium and double-height space on the ground floor facilitating natural air circulation. The project program includes an auditorium, library, planarium, syndicate room, prime minister's lounge, and central atrium for spacious gatherings. The architectural design of the DSCSC is functional and practical, focusing on meeting the needs of students, faculty, and staff. Features prioritize natural light, air circulation, indoor thermal comfort, flexible spaces, and modern technology to support teaching and learning. Elevation is an important part of the design, creating a focal point and expressing authority, security, and professionalism. The military academy chose a verse by national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, "Ever high is my head," as its motto, which is intended to be created through design. For this, DSCSC is designed with simple, clean lines and a neutral color palette, with attention paid to features such as fenestration and outdoor lighting. An attempt was made to create an architecture that provides a modern and easy-to-use place for learning and growth.
